What makes an image "Merit Worthy?"

Merit scores are often more than capturing a good exposure of interesting subjects and props. Almost all images need some finishing or "polishing" to reach the Deserving of Merit and higher Score.

That means you've got to have some tools in your toolbox especially considering the new 2017 IPC Rules. Photoshop is your best tool, and it can be your friend and companion on your journey or it can be a battle of the wills.

It's often about understanding what makes a Merit image - the Twelve Elements. Not all the elements can be effected positively by Photoshop, but "bad" technique can negatively effect the score.

Of course, there's no single ”do this and you'll get a Merit score" technique, but there are steps you can take to give your images their best chance of reaching or exceeding the Deserving of Merit Score.

Join us as we present and discuss Print Competition and Photoshop techniques that can hopefully help get your images into the Merit and above range.

Dan joined the PPA to declare his candidacy for the CPP program. He earned his Certification in 2015 and became a Liaison in 2016 and invited back for 2017.

He began entering competition at his local guild, then at the state and national level. Since then, he has been steadily racking up awards and merits and has continued to his Master of Photography degree.

Dan is a “Juror in Training” from attending PPA's PEC Judges workshop.

He continues to enter at his local guild, and annually at both district and the International Print Competition.

Dan takes a limited number of “Coaching” (CPP & Competition) clients each year. If you’re interested don’t hesitate to contact: info @ danferguson.photography (of course, take out the spaces)
